GrassHopper by Cozey7

Sun protection that comes from the warmth of the Colorado sun.

Colorado-based Cozey7, designer/manufacturer of the TrailHopper, is introducing the GrassHopper, a one-piece sunsuit that provides breathable, long-lasting UPF 50 protection that doesn’t deteriorate after repeated laundering.

“This summer we designed the GrassHopper to keep kiddos from getting sunburn without using the chemicals, which so many are allergic to,” Jill Winckler, Cozey7 founder, tells me. “The fabric we use is UPF50, made with a tight weave and crushed seashells. No chemical is added to the fabric. There’s nothing to wash off.”

With natural anti-microbial properties, the lightweight GrassHopper also keeps little ones cool and is quick drying. Reversible foot cuffs cover little toes while seated in backpacks and strollers, and hood covers exposed heads. Stuff sack and Camp USA carabiner included.

Wyatt Lily NYC Collection

The popular Upper West Side boutique launches signature collection for summer.

After the successful launch of Wyatt Lily NYC, New York’s children’s boutique that caters to the city’s most discerning mini-fashionistas, owner Rachel Uchitel is débuting the Wyatt Lily NYC collection, inspired by her three-year-old daughter. The boutique’s signature collection is playful with a dash of New York chic –just like its namesake.

“I’ve created the collection to be both whimsical and practical with a bit of an edge,” Rachel says. “Our clothing is meant to be fashionable- but it’s just as important that young children can play all day in all of our pieces, too.”

Other custom tees and dresses are also available through a free personal shopping service, which Rachel encourages all customers to experience: decerning help choosing and creating the best gift or outfit the store has to offer.

Important Info – Recalled Products for Children

Recalled toys, sports equipment and furniture for infants and children cause thousands of injuries, even death.

Has This Ever Happened to You?

  • Maria searches a swap meet for the perfect stroller for her baby due in a couple of weeks. When she settles on one to purchase, she has no idea that this particular stroller is on a Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) list of recalled products known to cause injury and deaths.
  • To help save money, Dylan’s family and friends give the mother-to-be used baby items that they had purchased for their own children back in the day.

These are common ways baby care items, clothing and accessories are recycled through a network of thoughtful people who are trying to help, but often don’t realize that the toys, sports equipment and furniture they’re re-gifting are frequently recalled products.

Now, in an effort to keep children and babies from the increased danger of recalled items, Safe Kids California (SKC) is launching a program to educate the public about the danger of unknowingly purchasing or accepting products that have been recalled. The campaign’s centerpiece of public service announcements, or PSAs, recorded in English and Spanish showcase important safety messages about recalled items. While many items are safe, it is important that parents check the CPSC list when accepting new or used items.

“When we discovered that almost 30 percent of recalls in 2012 were children’s products, and that there were 230,000 emergency visits to the ER involving injuries from nursery items and toys, we knew that we had to take action,” says Iana Simeonov, project director from the Public Health Institute. “Our goal was to demystify and contextualize the process of children’s product recalls for consumers while making the information more accessible to English and Spanish speaking parents.”

Watch Here. The Wheels Make the World Go Round PSA highlights strollers and outdoor sports equipment, which are among the most frequently recalled products that can be recycled without warning through swap meets, garage sales, second-hand stores and among friends and family.

The Baby’s Day PSA uses a clever crib mobile visual to help parents understand that products for infants and toddlers are recalled more frequently than other products. To learn more, visit http://www.safekidscalifornia.org/recalls.

In addition to the new PSAs, the project includes a mobile-optimized Safe Kids California website, a Twitter stream of recalls and a “widget” that notifies users of important recalls directly from the CPSC in real time.

“SKC has the bandwidth to reach hundreds of thousands of parents,” Iana says. “With its help, we will roll out the content to Safe Kids coalitions and partner agencies in California and across the country.”

About the Children’s Product Recall Project
Safe Kids California is part of the Safe Kids Worldwide global network dedicated to keeping kids safe from preventable childhood injury – the number one cause of death among children ages one to 19. Funded by the Public Health Institute in Oakland, CA, the fiscal agency is the Folsom Cordova Community Partnership (FCCP), dedicated to enhancing the education, health and well-being of the children, youth, and adults of the community. Just Breathe

Kindergarteners talk about mindfulness in a new short film.

Recently featured on OWN’s Super Soul Sunday, Just Breathe is a four-minute movie produced by filmmakers Julie Bayer Salzman, Josh Salzman, their son, classmates and family members one Saturday afternoon. In it, kindergarteners talk about coping with emotions and using meditation and breathing techniques.

“The film is entirely unscripted,” says Julie. “What the kids say is based purely on their own neuro-scientific understanding of difficult emotions, and how they cope through breathing and meditation. They, in turn, are teaching us all.”

Julie was inspired to create the film after taking a six-week course with Mindful Schools, an organization that teaches mindfulness in US schools. “I overheard my then five-year-old son talking with his friend about how emotions affect different regions of the brain, and how to calm down by taking deep breaths — all things they were beginning to learn in Kindergarten at their new school, Citizens of the World Charter School, in Mar Vista, CA. I was surprised and overjoyed to witness first-hand just how significant social-emotional learning in an elementary school curriculum was on these young minds.”

042215_CRTPost_PrincessCuffs_01Pam Bloch is owner/designer of Princess Cuffs, the first ruffled cuff bracelets for all girls ages two through seven. The Sherman Oaks, CA-based small business works with local children’s hospitals to help put smiles on little girls’ faceswith donations of Princess Cuffs.

“My own little girl loved feeling like a princess, loved to dress up and put the finishing touches on her outfit no matter where we were off to,” Pam says. “We are currently working with Make A Wish, Children’s Hospital and St. Jude’s Research Hospital to gift all the little girls a pair of cuffs so they can feel elegant, regal and like a real princess.”

The cuffs come in three sparkly colors, purple, pink and white; and in three sizes. Specialty orders are available upon request.

042215_CRTPost_PrincessCuffs_RiseofCatherinetheGreatFrilly and sparkly, Princess Cuffs are fashioned after the beautiful costumes featured in the 1934 movie, The Rise of Catherine The Great. “The movie is a visual wonder from the intricate sets to the glorious costumes,” Pam says. “What really caught my eye was the cuff accessory added to Catherine’s sleeves of her gowns. They were long, flowy, and sparkly and added a perfect finishing touch to each gown.” From this fashion detail, Pam is inspired to give every little princess her own bracelet “to complete her outfit, add a bit of color or just to wear bracelets like mommy.”
