Petidoux

“I started Petidoux in heart of New York City to provide parents with a classical offering of luxury pajamas and play sets, made from the best available Peruvian Pima cotton, modern patterns, retro inspired, and, above all, the softest touch anywhere.”

French inspired by way of New York and London … and Italy

Alexandra Morali has been sewing and knitting since she was a child, inspired by her French mother and Italian grandmother. “I have a passion for gorgeous fabrics, vibrant colors and vintage buttons, beautifully tailored gowns and old Hollywood glamour,” she says, “I still sew and collect stunning velvet ribbons.”

After Alexandra met her future husband in London, they were married in Italy and established their home in Manhattan. “Since our children were born, I have been working at making beautifully soft pajamas for them to enjoy as they are our toughest critics.”

120815_CRTPost_Petidoux_02

Thus began Petidoux, from the French “petit,” which means “small,” and “doux,” which means “soft.” Alexandra’s classic collections of luxurious pajamas, modern play-sets and bib-gowns for girls and boys come with many benefits:

  • Tagless – all the required information is stamped on the back of the garments because children don’t like anything scratchy, itchy or sticking out.
  • Made from the Softest Cotton –  meaning world-famous Peruvian Pima cotton for both its softness and durability. The company recently introduced Alpaca sets, too.
  • Unique patterns – professional pattern makers in both the U.S. and Peru design clothes that are constantly adjusted to fit modern-day children properly.
  • Snug-fitting Pajamas – U.S. guidelines for children’s sleepwear (Code of Federal Regulations in Title 16, Part 1615) are flowed closely, making Petidoux pajamas tight and snug,  eliminating any risk of accidental burns.

One of the Best Things …

The Petidoux collection features original designs inspired by Alexandra’s children, from space exploration dreams (“We watch a lot of NASA videos…”) to books they read together at night (the Petidoux blog features some of them), to cooking or reading French Elle or Harper’s Bazaar – “I design all the prints myself in our atelier in the Flatiron district of Manhattan,” Alexandra says.

She also suggests that nothing replaces the experience of seeing and touching these soft garments in person – and I agree. Peruvian Pima cotton will blow you away! So visit your favorite children’s boutiques and ask to see –and touch- Petidoux.

She goes on to give a hardy warning to parents everywhere: “Today’s boys clothing market is flooded with cheap products made from inferior materials and manufactured under questionable– if not unethical – conditions.

Companies have become so concentrated on profit margins and annual revenue figures they’ve forgotten about their most important statistic, you and your prince.”

Atissu

New lifestyle brand Atissu is on a mission to make everyday objects more lovely.

The début collection of contemporary boxed tissues from one of the UK’s newest lifestyle brands, Atissu, is quite distinctive. What we really like – experienced brand expert, packaging designer and creator Sam Dumont is pluck enough to include the kids’ rooms in her designs.

These days, parents are keen to complement the beautiful modern interiors of their homes with equally beautiful accessories – including tissue boxes. Why hide them when they look like this?

101415_CRTPost_Atissu_01

Desirable for the Design Conscious

“I hope you will love (as much as we do) and will agree that our tissue range is spot on for children’s bedrooms and playrooms,” Kerry O’Connor, who runs PR for the company, says. “These little boxes often sit next to carefully curated items like ornaments, prints and favorite toys; things that people have taken time, energy and money to source.” The launch collection of 12 new contemporary boxed tissues is designed and made in Britain, and the folks at Atissu work closely with like-minded suppliers to source materials sustainably.

“Parents tell us that there’s nothing available that they actively like, and certainly nothing that compliments their children’s bedrooms; their children just adore our new designs, we’ve been told!”

101415_CRTPost_Atissu_03

All About Atissu

Apart from choosing a fabulous name for a tissue company, Sam and her team like to work with select illustrators, artists, textile and graphic designers on original box designs that please the eye. For the premiere children’s collection, they collaborated with illustrator duo Loopz art. Four different boxes are available with four little buddies on each side of each box, totaling 16 cute but cool characters: Fox & Co, Tiger & Co, Bear & Co and Panda & Co. The box designs are printed on matt board from well-managed forests so as to not compromise on sustainability or quality. “We print locally in London using only vegetable based inks and water based varnishes,” Kerry tells me.

101415_CRTPost_Atissu_02

All About the Tissues!

For those little delicate noses, the tissues are made from 3-ply super-soft FSC material.

In addition, Atissu has just launched a beautiful new collection of Giclee prints. As Sam likes to say, it’s just “a little bit of lovely every day.” Available wholesale and online.

Fish Flops

Already snagging national headlines at the tender age of 15, this creative dynamo is 061813_FishFlops_01following her passion all the way to the bank.

You may have seen recent news stories declaring, “Fifteen-year-old Sells Over $1 Million Worth of Flip Flops to Nordstrom.” And you may wonder how it all came to happen. Well, here’s the scoop:

Back when she was just eight years old, Maddie Robinson has an idea. She thinks up a product that combines her love of swimming, fishing and drawing –a fun and unique combo, I’d say.

I’ve always been a flip-flop-kind of kid, so I created a brand of flip flops called FishFlops®. I shared my idea with many of my friends and family, and they all smiled and thought I had something special.”

061813_FishFlops_02Maddie’s FishFlops® footwear are made to mix and match with one or more of her t-shirts and caps, designed in coordinating colors and aquatic characters. The footwear lights up when a child walks, and they’re fun to share with friends, too – “make a friend smile!” Maddie says.

061813_FishFlops_03The Big Ask. All it takes for Maddie’s big break is a letter to Nordstrom about her brand –and a response from the retailer’s buying team to offer Fish Flops in 60 Nordstrom stores. The rest, as they say, is the big headline.

Maddie’s colorful Fish Flops illustrations are also characters the children’s books she writes, ocean adventures Swimming with Spinner, and  FishFlops® – Living Together at Sea by Orkicky. Kids are introduced to the Maddie’s characters as each book unfolds. Maddie is also planning a Fish Flops Virtual World.

Fish Flops sold at Nordstrom online and in stores. Email info@fishflops.com for more information about apparel and book sales.
