Bluebird Blanket

This new line of American-made blankets and throws for style-conscious moms delights with eco-friendly sophistication.

Bluebird Blanket is a line of super soft, eco-friendly baby blankets that feature kid-friendly themes children can grow with and sophisticated colors that easily complement any family’s décor -in the nursery and throughout the rest of the home.

The Bluebird Blanket collection includes three styles, with additional introductions planned throughout the year. The Animal blanket wrangles a menagerie of creatures big and small, including rhinos, giraffes, turtles, elephants and owls. The inviting color combinations include beige and cream, pink and gray, and dark linen and orange spice. The Transportation blanket is every boy’s dream with trucks, cars, bikes, scooters and road signs in gold on navy. Bold chevron stripes in linen and milk and navy and milk combinations promise a smooth transition from the nursery to the big kid room and beyond.

Made in the USA. “Bluebird Blanket is proudly manufactured in the U.S. We’re thrilled to support the American textile industry and keep Americans working,” says owner Brenda Anderson. “Plus, manufacturing here allows us to have greater control over quality and deliveries. It also allows us to have superior speed to market with new products that reflect current market trends.”

The blankets are made from 74% pre-consumer recycled cotton fibers. Each is generously sized, measuring 31″ by 42″ They are mid weight and washer and dryer safe.

Débuts at ABC Kids Expo. Children’s shop owners and retailers get a chance to see the Bluebird Blanket line up close and personal by visiting booth #2746 at the ABC Kids Expo October 14-17. You may recognize the name Brenda Anderson – her company, Bluebird Sales & Distribution, represents the Mum 2 Mum brand, selling and marketing its whole juvenile products range. Bluebrid Blanket is her own brand.

Sneak Peek at New Collection from Mixed Up Clothing

Mixed Up Clothing débuts Global Citizens collection at ENK Children’s Club.

Sonia Kang is exhibiting at her first children’s trade show October 21-23 in New York City! The owner and creative executive of Mixed Up Clothing –a wonderfully colorful and trendy line of clothes for kids- is introducing her brand at ENK Children’s Club at booth  #1825 with a Spring/Summer 2013 collection called Global Citizens. Here’s a sneak peek!

Friendship Through Fabrics. Founded in 2007, the multi-ethnic children’s clothing line based in California is inspired by the textiles, cultures and people of the world, to develop friendships through fabrics. Sonia infuses diverse styles with cultural twists, blending materials and designs from all corners of the world.

My inspiration for this collection continues to be the mission of Mixed Up Clothing: to showcase and celebrate different cultures utilizing fabrics from all over the world. Not everyone gets to travel outside the country so each garment includes a little story to teach kids where the fabric is from.  When we learn about the diversity around us, we can begin to accept one another and find unity in our differences.

For those interested, ENK Children’s Club is one of today’s premiere trade shows covering the entire market in children’s clothing, infant and fashion accessories, including layette items and footwear for newborn to pre-teen. Held four times a year in New York City in January, March, August and October, buyers and boutique owners can make appointments to view Mixed Up Clothing’s collection by make emailing zenia@mixedupclothing.com.

Brooklyn, NY-based Kalulu Débuts This Month

A vibrant new children’s wear collection inspired by the colors and traditions of East Africa.

Retailers and children’s stores will have a first look at the colorful, contemporary Kalulu children’s wear line at the ENK Children’s Club trade show later this month –and you’re getting a sneak peek right now!

Kalulu is about expressing the joy and fun of childhood, and the kikoy fabric -with its endless color combinations- captures that spirit. Plus, ‘Kalulu’ is fun to say!

Made in the USA. The new Kalulu is a comfortable and sophisticated collection that stands out from the crowd with unconventional color combinations and distinctive border prints. The line is made entirely from the East African fabric called kikoy cloth, a bold cotton fabric traditionally worn by men in the region as sarongs. From school to parties to family gatherings, the easy-to-wear clothes are both age-appropriate and eye-catching for girls and boys sizes 2T to 10. Each piece makes a bold statement but also easily mixes and matches with any existing wardrobe.

“It also allows children to stand out and express their individuality,” says founder Milbert Kiggundu-Bentham. “The ancient looming process makes it a highly durable material that gets softer with each wash, so kids can live in it and pass it down without wearing it out.”

Kalulu, which means “hare” in East African languages (like a rabbit), takes its name from the clever yet mischievous creature that often starred in the folklore that Milbert remembers from her childhood in Kenya. For her, these stories and the kikoy are interwoven since she was often listening to one while wrapped in the other. Now, the mother of three sons shares both traditions with children everywhere. “The cloth provides a sense of place,” she says, “picking up on the earthy hues found on safari as well as the beachy tones borrowed from a day on the East African coast.”

After earning degrees from Cornell and Georgetown University, Milbert spent her career in finance. The launch of Kalulu brings her life full-circle, tying into her East African roots and connecting her with her grandmother and great grandmother, who were both seamstresses.

The Spring /Summer’13 Kalulu collection features tunic dresses and tops, hooded tanks, ruffled tanks, slim-fit jeans, shorts and skorts for girls. Boy’s wear includes tunic tops, button-down shirts, hooded tops, Capris and safari shorts.

Ask for it by name at your favorite kid’s shops!

Heaven Sent Infant Wear

Four-year-old children’s wear designer finds success with babies, books and The Bible!

California-based Heaven Sent Infant Wear designs children’s clothes that offer what they call “a spiritual reflection.”

The owners – one is a grandmother to 12 and the other is mom to her daughter- share the belief that a child is a gift from God. “We began designing infant apparel that we believed could share that belief and warm the hearts of mothers everywhere.”

With that, Heaven Sent offers 100% cotton and organic cotton bibs, rompers, gowns, onezies, jumpers and more, all adorned with unique quotations from the Bible, such as Fearfully And Wonderfully Made (Psalms 139:14), favorite childhood prayers, the signature message Heaven Sent and others.

Bookstore Love. Heaven Sent began by selling their designs at local baby expos and mother-baby shows, and then a local bookstore fell in love with the brand, carrying it in the store. “Last year, we did the International Christian Retail Show (ICRS) in Atlanta, Georgia, where we were picked up by eight new bookstores,” they tell me. “Earlier this year, we were picked up by Berean Christian Stores, and now, Heaven Sent is sold in 26 stores total.” And counting, for sure.

A Wink and a Prayer. I think the makers of Heaven Sent say it best:

Our product not only shares a message but is bright, fun, excellent quality and very cute.

I’m all for cute and I’m all for a little reflection, too.

Mom2Mommy.com is Live

Free to join, Mom2Mommy is the first -and only- online parenting resource that directly connects moms with doctors at no expense to the moms. Plus they can indulge in boutique shopping.

Elaine Iwicki and Kelly Harper are the founders of Mom2Mommy.com, which went live in August. They are passionate about creating a community of physicians, boutiques and baby product manufacturers who want to join a trusted network of resources available to moms across the nation. Both busy moms and entrepreneurs, Elaine and Kelly noticed a gap in the resources available to moms who needed convenient and accessible information about health.

We’ve created the site as a connection tool for parents to share similar stories, struggles and triumphs while caring for their children. Whether you can’t get your kids to eat their vegetables, or you have a child with special needs, it provides a place for questions to be asked and answered.

-co-founder Kelly Harper

One of a kind. Becoming a Mom2Mommy member is free. Visitors can search for medical specialists, read expert posts and join forums. The site allows visitors to post questions and get answers from expert physicians, dentists, chiropractors and health specialists. In return, care providers can post articles related to their areas of expertise, or tips on child care and healthy living. “It’s a great tool for moms on the go,” they say, “and ensures that trusted expert medical advice and tips are just one click away.”

Shop ’til you sign off. Mom2Mommy also features unique boutique items for children ages newborn to 15, and adults. “From baby products to adult apparel, Mom2Mommy serves as an online shopping resource, with home delivery available for busy moms.” Boutique owners can be featured at no cost, and advertise their specialty goods to parents as well as medical professionals. “We also provide boutique items at a discount for parents.”

Natural progression to the on-line lifestyle trend. Mom2Mommy was recently featured on KGUN 9’s The Morning Blend in Tucson, AZ! Kelly and Elaine are very interested in doing business with credible business partners. If interested, contact them directly:

Born To Be Sassy

Made in the USA, this line boasts unique boutique designs at very affordable prices.

Alabama-based Born To Be Sassy was born in 2006 and in just six months, outgrew its manufacturing facility! Just like a child.

Today, with more than 51,000 likes on Facebook – the apparel line of appliqué clothing for kids has grown “beyond our wildest dreams,” say the owners. Offering daily sales on social media and free shipping –always … the company makes quality clothes for both girls and boys as unique as your very own child.

We love being a part of those special occasions where only the perfect outfit will do.

How do they do this? One word: personalize, baby. (OK, that’s two words, but who’s counting?) Born To Be Sassy clothing can be monogrammed with your child’s name or initials, creating an “only-for-me” outfit your child will love.

I especially love the fun and easy “How to Shop” promotion Born To Be Sassy’s doing on Facebook.

Boo-ya! It’s timely, affordable –and fun! Thanks to my sister-in-law for introducing me to Born To Be Sassy.

WallCandy Arts

A favorite of Children’s Retail Today, WallCandy Arts is Made in the USA.

WallCandy Arts is the company behind WallCandy -removable, repositionable and reusable wall stickers and wall art. The brainchild of Allison Krongard, mom to Lilly and Brandon, WallCandy lets adults –and kids- create a unique atmosphere in any room with patented decorative products made with you in mind.

WallCandy Arts is the ultimate commitment-free décor for any room.

Peel and Stick. Anyone decorating with WallCandy can do so easily and effortlessly, leaving no marks on the walls. Made in the USA of non-toxic materials, WallCandy’s special adhesive allows you to remove and reposition the design over and over again.

Allison’s first WallCandy client was actually a friend’s three-year-old named Max –who turned out to be one tough customer. Just as soon as Allison had pulled together the inspiration, swatches and paint chips to suit his dinosaur obsession, he changed his mind, wanting his room filled with spaceships! The experience became the ultimate idea-maker:  “If kids’ imaginations grow as fast as their bodies, why not create a décor element that’s easy to change and easy to apply?” Allison shares online.

That was back in 2002. Now, Allison is the patented inventor of removable, reusable and repositionable chalkboard wall decals, too –and the WallCandy product line has expanded to include removable wallpaper, wall decals, instant wallpaper, patented peel and stick chalkboard, party decorating celebration kits, seasonal decal designs and more.

In January, WallCandy Arts partnered with lifestyle brand French Bull to create a new collection of wall decals, reinventing them with a fresh and contemporary look. The collection is designed to inspire a child’s imagination while adding pizzazz to a nursery or playroom.
